Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuʔuĺ (~x-,-χ-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: even, smooth
Ket: u:ĺ3
Yug: u:ĺ3
Kottish: ūlam
Comments: ССЕ 199. Werner 2, 377 <*úɣǝl>.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuʔun (~x-,-G-,-χ-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: a k. of net ("пущальня"); to set up (a net)
Ket: unǝŋ5,6, pl. unaɣǝn5, ūń (v.)
Yug: u:ń (v.)
Comments: ССЕ 199. Yug has a very rare -ń (incorrect recording?). Werner 2, 348 explains the form unǝŋ as a compound with *pǝʔŋ 'net' - which is in fact quite possible (*ʔuʔun-paʔŋ), but does not explain why "die Rekonstruktion *ʔuʔun bleibt deshalb fraglich".
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuʔǯ- (~x-)
Meaning: rump
Ket: uʔt, pl. uŕeŋ5; Б.,С. pl. udǝŋ5
Yug: uʔt́, pl. ud́iŋ5
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 2, 376 <*uʔt́>. Probably of Turkic origin (Tuv. uža etc.)
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔudo- (~x-)
Meaning: bottom; mountain valley
Ket: urɔ5, Б, С udǝ5 'bottom'
Kottish: uruk 'mountain valley'
Comments: Werner 2, 352, 354 (without comparison and reconstruction). Deriving Kott. uruk < Turk. oruq 'way' (T 1978, 12) is hardly plausible.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuja (~x-)
Meaning: mole (animal)
Ket: baŋuja5 (baŋ "earth")
Yug: uja5
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 2, 326 *uja.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuK- (~x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: flour
Kottish: uxei, uxēi
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 2, 373.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuK- (~x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to dig
Ket: ug-dij6
Yug: ug-d́ij6
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 2, 324 (says that one should rather reconstruct *ukd́ij - but any velar may be reconstructed in this position).
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuku- ( ~ -x-)
Meaning: to rest
Ket: u:3...am, MKet. ú-bet
Yug: -úgu-
Comments: Werner 2, 319 (w.r.).
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuĺ- (~x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: shaft, handle
Ket: ūĺ, pl. -eŋ1 (North. ūĺe1)
Yug: ūĺ, pl. -eŋ1
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 1, 210 *ul'ǝ.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuĺ- (~x-)
Meaning: to tie off, let go
Ket: uĺ-tij
Yug: uĺiŋtet́5
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 2, 344.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuĺań (~x-)
Meaning: a k. of duck, dun-bird (нырок)
Ket: uĺɛń6, pl. uleń5 / -ǝŋ5
Yug: uĺan5,6 ,pl. -ɨŋ5
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 2, 338.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuĺaʒ
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: rib
Ket: uĺet6, pl. uĺerǝŋ5 (Bak., Sur. uĺedǝŋ5)
Yug: uĺat5,6, pl. uĺadiŋ5
Kottish: ulái, pl. ulajaŋ (cf. also ulai "by the side of", ulār 'side')
Comments: ССЕ 200-201. As in several other cases, the stem contains a body part suffix -Vʒ. The original meaning is definitely "bone of the side" ( = "rib"), cf. the semantics in Kottish. Werner's (2, 338) analysis of the word as *ugǝl-aʔt (in our reconstruction would be *ʔuʔul-aʔd) "smooth bone" is quite unlikely - both for semantic (a highly improbable development "smooth bone" > "rib") and phonetic reasons: Kott. ulai can only go back to *ʔuĺaʒ, and never - to *ʔuĺad. Non-initial *-d- yields Kott. -r-, as shown (definitively) in КС 148 - including the very root for "bone" PY *ʔaʔd (q.v.), reflected in Kottish as araŋ 'limb'. We do in fact have a Kottish formation ulār - but it means only "side" and thus can in no way be derived from "smooth bone", being rather another old derivative from the primary root *ʔuĺ- "bone (of the side)".
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔulVk (~-r1-,-ĺ-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: bladder, bubble
Kottish: ūluk
Arin: óĺau (М., Сл., Кл.)
Pumpokol: leo-xóxar (Сл.)
Comments: ССЕ 200. Werner 2, 332 says that one should rather think of a compound with *xur1 'water' (*uʎ in Werner's notation) - which is absolutely precluded by the Arin form - cf. oĺau 'bladder' vs. kul 'water'.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔuraj (~-ŕ-,-r1-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: callosity
Ket: uĺej6, pl. -ǝŋ5
Yug: uraj6, pl. -ǝŋ5
Comments: ССЕ 201. Werner 2, 334 regards the word as *xur1 + *ʔāχ- 'water sack', which is theoretically not excluded - but most probably just another folk etymology, based on the resemblance with uĺ 'water'.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔurol (~x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: leech
Ket: ulɔl5
Yug: urɔl5
Comments: ССЕ 201. Werner 2, 331. The inner Yenisseian analysis suggests a compound *xur1 'water' + *jVʔra 'insect, bug' - which, as in many cases, is probably a folk etymology considering the external evidence.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔus- (~x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: away, asunder
Ket: uśkij6 (Кастр.: duoske-ābʁas); uś-nij 'to rip off, undo', uś-tɔn 'to tear off'
Kottish: ūša 'away, further'; ušfauk, ušpauk "opening"; ušfōttaŋ, ušpōttaŋ "to open", praet. ušfoāttaŋ, ušpoāttaŋ, imp. ušfe, ušpe
Comments: ССЕ 201. Werner 2, 364, 366-367, 376 (without reconstruction and not connecting the Ket and Kott. forms). On the relationship with Ket. uśka 'back' see under *suga.
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔus- (~x-)
Meaning: to put, place
Yug: uš́atiŋ6, (Werner 2, 356) úsatiŋ
Comments: Werner 2, 356 (without reconstruction).
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔut- ( ~ x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: wet
Ket: utäs (Castr.) 'foggy, cloudy'
Yug: uttá-d́id́iŋ 'es tropft'
Kottish: uta-tēr 'to wet'
Comments: Werner 2, 369, 373 (without comparison and reconstruction).
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔut- (~ x-)
Meaning: in vain
Yug: ut1
Kottish: ūt-paŋ
Comments: Werner 2, 367 (w.r.).
Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔut- (~x-)

Meaning: near
Ket: ūtiś1
Yug: utis1
